1. Create a Colorful Galaxy

💫 Transform a blank page into a cosmic masterpiece!

  • What You’ll Need: Watercolors or acrylics, a toothbrush, and thick paper.
  • Steps:
    1. Start with a dark base color (navy or black).
    2. Add swirling purples, blues, and pinks to mimic a galaxy.
    3. Use a toothbrush dipped in white paint to splatter stars across your cosmic canvas.
  • Why It’s Fun: There’s no wrong way to make a galaxy—it’s all about experimenting and having fun with blending and splattering!

Let’s Art It! Tip: Add a few hand-drawn constellations with a white gel pen for an extra touch of magic.

2. Watercolor and oil resist fun

🎨 Relax, unwind, and let your colors make a mark

  • What You’ll Need: Oil pastels, paper and watercolor
  • Steps:
    1. Draw random shapes or sections on your paper (think blobs, lines, or grids) with oil pastel.
    2. Use watercolor to paint over your paper in different color paint and watch the oil pastel drawings come through!
  • Why It’s Fun: Watching the oil pastels come through the paint is always fun for kids to see!

Let’s Art It! Insight: Play some calming music while the kids have fun creating their artwork

3. Paint a Sunset

🌅 Blend colors into a serene landscape.

  • What You’ll Need: Paints (watercolors or acrylics), brushes, and paper or canvas.
  • Steps:
    1. Choose warm colors like yellow, orange, and red for the sunset sky.
    2. Blend these colors from top to bottom, letting them fade into a soft horizon.
    3. Add simple silhouettes—trees, mountains, or a lone bird—for contrast.
  • Why It’s Fun: Sunset blending teaches color transitions and looks stunning even if you’re new to painting.

Let’s Art It! Tip: Hold you paintbrush perpendicular to the paper and go backwards and forwards in small strokes, using both sides of the paintbrush so you get smooth application. Hold your paintbrush halfway up for best control.

4. Sketch your Favorite Object

✏️ Look around and capture the beauty of everyday items.

  • What You’ll Need: A pencil, eraser, and any object you love.
  • Steps:
    1. Trace the outline/edge of your object with your finger by closing one eye and imagine you are drawing on the edge with your finger.
    2. Then follow the edge when you’re drawing on your paper by looking at the object and looking at the paper and drawing slowly, making sure you are following the outline.
    3. You could also try drawing the object without looking at the paper, which forces you to just draw the edge without worrying about what it’s going to look like.
  • Why It’s Fun: It’s a great exercise in observation and teaches you how to break down complex objects into manageable parts.

Let’s Art It! Insight: Don’t stress about perfection—your unique style is what makes it special.

5. Create a Paper Colored Collage

✂️ Mix and match materials for a fun, hands-on experience.

  • What You’ll Need: Paint, scissors, glue, and paper (preferably thick).
  • Steps:
    1. Paint papers in different colors.
    2. Use different objects like sponges, toothbrushes or ‘teeth like’ comb cut from cardboard to create different textures on the paper.
    3. Once it’s dry create a collage by cutting out different shapes from the painted paper and sticking them onto card. You can cut our flowers or circles or create a scene like houses or animals.
  • Why It’s Fun: Collaging is playful, tactile, and allows for endless creative possibilities.

Let’s Art It! Tip: Use metallic or textured paper scraps to add an eye-catching element to your collage.
